Railway RRB NTPC Photo and Signature Upload Guide
A practical CEN-specific guide for the two things candidates often mix up: the live photo process shown by the application and the scanned signature file uploaded with the form.
This guide is based on the official CEN 06/2026 notification. Check the active RRB portal for any correction or replacement notice before submitting.
Quick answer
Official CEN 06/2026 notification
Use the current Railway notification as the final source for dates and upload rules.
Important: the photo is live capture
CEN 06/2026 requires a live photograph captured in the application. Do not use an old passport photo in place of the camera step.
- Use a plain white background and good front lighting.
- Wear dark clothing so the face is clearly separated from the background.
- Keep the face centered and at eye level; the head should fill about half of the frame.
- Remove caps, masks, and glasses unless the portal provides a specific permitted exception.
- Allow camera permission in the browser or phone when the form requests it.
If live capture does not work
- Open the camera permission controls for the application site and allow camera access.
- Close other apps that may already be using the webcam, then reload the form.
- Use a current mobile or desktop browser; if the portal shows a QR fallback, complete the capture with the phone camera.
- Do not photograph a printed, scanned, or displayed old photograph.
Signature upload rule
The scanned signature is the file that needs preparation. Use black ink on plain white paper, write in running/cursive handwriting, and scan clearly at a minimum of 100 DPI.
| Format | JPG or JPEG |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | Minimum 140 x 60 pixels |
| File size | 30 KB minimum and 49 KB maximum |
| Ink and paper | Black ink on plain white paper |
| Handwriting | Running/cursive; avoid block or disconnected letters |
| Scan | Minimum 100 DPI; crop to the signature box |
Why the signature gets rejected
Wrong format
A PNG or WebP file can fail when the field accepts only JPG/JPEG.
Outside the KB range
A file below 30 KB or above 49 KB does not match the CEN rule.
Too little detail
Low-DPI scans, faint ink, shadows, or a grey background can make the signature unclear.
Wrong handwriting
Block capitals, disconnected letters, or a signature that does not resemble the candidate's normal signature can create a problem.
Other document rule
Candidates claiming a travel concession may need to upload an SC/ST certificate PDF under 400 KB. This is separate from the signature file and is not required for every applicant; follow the active CEN field before uploading.
Application dates
- Application: October 8 to November 6, 2026.
- Fee payment: by November 8, 2026.
- Modification window: November 9 to 18, 2026.
- Select the exact CEN shown in your application before using any size or format value.
- This guide is for the Graduate workflow; the Undergraduate workflow may use different instructions.
Use the exact workflow
Capture the photo live in the form, prepare the scanned signature separately, and validate any optional certificate only when the application asks for it.
