Why does my Canada passport photo fail the online upload check?
Check that you have the original JPG/JPEG, a portrait 3:2 ratio, dimensions from 1,200 × 1,800 through 3,000 × 4,500 pixels, and a file size from 200 KB to 5 MB. This checker reports these technical properties only; it cannot judge the face framing or whether the file is an unaltered original.
Can I resize or compress a Canada online-renewal photo to fix an error?
Canada.ca says the digital photo must be saved directly from the original camera file. Do not crop, edit, or repeatedly recompress it to force it through this checker. Ask your photographer for a compliant original file or follow the portal's instructions.
Is the digital photo the same as a 50 × 70 mm passport print?
No. The 50 × 70 mm measurement is for printed passport photos. The digital online-renewal photo has separate pixel, ratio, file-size, and original-file requirements.
Does a passing checker result guarantee IRCC acceptance?
No. The checker cannot assess whether the photo is genuine and unaltered, whether the face is framed correctly, or whether it meets all current application conditions. Canada.ca and the application portal are authoritative.
Canada passport photo upload errors: what to check
If the portal reports an unsupported file, dimensions, aspect ratio, or file-size problem, compare the original file with the requirements above. This checker does not repair those problems because modifying the original digital photo may make it unsuitable for online renewal.
Printed applications use a different photo
For printed applications, Canada.ca specifies two identical 50 × 70 mm photographs and additional photographer and face-measurement rules. Use a commercial photographer and follow the current instructions; a pixel crop made by this tool is not a substitute for the required printed photo.
