The Background Whitener specifically targets the background color - replacing grey, yellow, or uneven tones with pure white. For best results, run the Whitener first (fix background color), then the Cleaner (remove remaining specks).

Why does my scanned signature have a grey background?

Three common causes: (1) the paper itself is off-white or recycled, (2) the scanner lid creates shadows near edges, (3) phone camera captures uneven lighting. All three produce a non-white background that this tool fixes.

Will this affect my ink strokes?

No. The whitening threshold is calibrated to only affect light areas (paper background). Dark ink strokes (black or blue) have much lower brightness values and are preserved untouched.

Should I whiten before or after cropping?
