Frequently asked questions
What sizes does Twitch require for emotes?
Twitch requires 3 sizes for manual emote uploads: 112×112 px (large), 56×56 px (medium), and 28×28 px (small). All must be transparent PNGs. Auto-resize mode accepts a single image between 112 and 4096 px, but the quality at 28px is often poor. Source: Twitch Help (verified August 2026).
What sizes does Twitch require for subscriber badges?
Subscriber and bit badges require exactly 3 sizes: 72×72 px, 36×36 px, and 18×18 px. Each file must be under 25 KB — a much stricter limit than emotes. All must be transparent PNGs.
Why does my emote look blurry at 28×28?
At 28×28 pixels, fine details and thin lines become unreadable. This is the most common problem streamers face. Use high-contrast designs with bold outlines. Our actual-size chat preview lets you verify readability before uploading to Twitch.
What is the difference between emotes and badges?
Emotes are used in chat messages (typed as :emotename:) and require 112/56/28 px sizes with a 1 MB limit. Badges appear next to usernames (subscriber loyalty, bit milestones) and require 72/36/18 px sizes with a strict 25 KB limit. This tool supports both.
Should I use Twitch Auto-Resize or Manual Mode?
Auto-resize is convenient (one upload), but Twitch's automatic downscaling often produces blurry results at the smallest size. Manual mode (uploading all 3 sizes separately) gives you full control. This tool generates all 3 sizes so you can upload them manually for the best quality.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All image processing happens locally in your web browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your images never leave your device. There is no server upload, no cloud storage, and no data collection.
Does this tool work on mobile browsers?
Yes. The tool works in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on both desktop and mobile devices.
When Should I Use This Tool?
- New affiliate/partner: You have emote art from your designer and need to generate all 3 upload sizes.
- Blurry small emote: Twitch auto-resize produced unreadable results at 28×28. Generate your own manually.
- New sub badges: You need 72/36/18 px badge files that each stay under the strict 25 KB limit.

Troubleshooting
- Badge over 25 KB: The 25 KB limit is very strict. Use simpler artwork with fewer colors for badges. Avoid complex gradients.
- Emote invisible on dark chat: Transparent emotes with dark outlines blend into Twitch Dark Mode. Use the preview toggle to verify.
- Art too detailed for 28px: Fine lines and small text disappear at 28 pixels. Use bold, simple shapes with high contrast.
Browser Compatibility
This tool uses the HTML5 Canvas API and works in all modern browsers:
- Google Chrome 90+
- Mozilla Firefox 90+
- Apple Safari 15+
- Microsoft Edge 90+
